Colony House Project

art board using all four of the final images from the series

Inspired by the song Runaway Pt. 1 (Love Has a Limit)

Carly, who invited me to collaborate with her on this print series, was there when Caleb opened the prints we created and framed as a gift. I think he said, "Holy smokes!" ;)

Carly made a call for artists to her fellow Colony House fans. This wasn't long after I traveled to Nashville in January 2020, to see one of the most high-energy, deep-lyrics, truth-shining bands ever. I saw her Instagram story, I jumped. She explained that she wanted to create some art to give to the band based on these three mysterious songs that wove through the new album, The Runaways. I gathered inspiration from interviews on the Love Good and the Long Distance Listening podcasts, as well as reading about Pullman porters, the railway in Tennessee in the 1930s, and the art of Thomas Hart Benton. Carly and I worked together for months, finally printing and framing these four images, and gifting them to Caleb in the wee hours, just after CH debuted a concert film and their first live show after an interrupted tour.
Here's what Carly had to say:
Monica is the absolute best! She helped turn my ideas into a reality and it was even better than I could have imagined. She puts so much thought and care into her work. You can see the love she puts into it. It was an honor to be able to create with Monica and I hope to be able to do it again!
